Pumpkin Fever

It's that time of year again and pumpkin coffee, cakes and products are popping up everywhere. I just saw pumpkin Greek yogurt at Trader Joe's the other day!! Yum. Pumpkins are in season and there is good reason to include this vegetable not only in your diet but also in your skin care regime. Pumpkin is rich in alpha and beta carotenes, important antioxidants that boost immunity and slow the aging process. They are also rich in Vitamins C and E which benefit tired and stressed skin, B5 to balance hormone levels and lutein to protect from oxidative damage. On top of all that pumpkins also provide the skin with fatty acids, potassium, magnesium, zinc and iron to balance fluid levels, soothe, soften and elasticize the skin and treat wrinkles and dehydration. That's a lot of good reasons to join in the PUMPKIN FEVER!!

Living at the beach, our skin can become dehydrated during the summer and the damaging rays of the sun can speed up the aging process. With the cool and drier winter months approaching, this is the best time of year to rehydrate and rejuvenate the skin.

Skin Care Ingredients

Skin care ingredients are becoming more advanced every day with cosmetic chemists' efforts. These new ingredients can also bring new side effects. It is important to discuss your facial regime with your aesthetician or skin care professional before going out and buying the next "best thing" on the market. He or she should already know which products and ingredients will be most effective for your skin type.

KB Organic Skin Care: A History

KB Organic Skin Care & Waxing was established in 2008. After working in the industry and studying the physiology of the skin for over ten years, I knew I needed to go organic. I also knew that in order to treat the skin and my clients the way they deserved, I would have to go out on my own. And thus KB Organic Skin Care & Waxing was born. For the past 5 years I have built a business on customized treatments for both the face and body. All my customized organic facials are either 60 or 90 minutes and include a lip and eye treatment, or whatever else you may need that I can accomplish within the time selected. My body treatments can treat almost any ailment from A-Z and include a pressure point facial and scalp massage. I believe this concept of fully customized services, that don't nickel and dime the client into upgrades once on the treatment table, is what makes my skin care business stand out. I also offer eyebrow and eyelash tinting and have my own line of custom blended skin care serums.

Your SPF

Did you know that up to 90% of visible aging is caused by sun exposure? Sunscreens help deflect and absorb harmful UV rays and protect the skin from photo damage. For the most protection, use a broad spectrum sunscreen that provides coverage from both UVA and UVB rays.

What SPF should you use?
The key to determining your SPF is identifying your skin type. Here are the six main skin types. Determine which one you are and then reference the SPF Chart below to maximize your protection when exposing yourself to the sun. Following these basic guidelines should ensure a nice even tan without burning.

Type 1 - Always burns easily, never tans, extremely sun sensitive.

Type 2 - Burns easily, tans minimally, also sun sensitive.

Type 3 - Sometimes burns, tans gradually to light brown, some sun sensitivity.

Type 4 - Burns minimally, tans to moderate brown, and virtually no sun sensitivity.

Type 5 - Rarely burns, tans well, sun-insensitive skin.

Type 6 - Never burns, deeply pigmented, sun-insensitive skin.
SPF Basic Guidelines Chart

If you are exposing yourself to the sun for the first time this season, I recommend starting with at least an SPF 30 for the first hour, followed by an SPF 50 for the second hour. It is best to limit your exposure to no more than 2 hours on your first day out. Otherwise follow these guidelines below to maximize your tan and minimize your burn.

Just Because Fall is Approaching......

Just because the summer is ending doesn't mean it is safe to stop wearing your sunscreen. Especially if you want to prevent the signs of aging, SPF is still a must during the fall and winter months. Just driving to work every morning with the glaring sun hitting your left cheek can cause discoloration of the skin. If you're not a fan of layering moisturizer and sunscreen and then makeup, try finding an all-in-one tinted moisturizer with SPF. There are plenty of them out there to choose from so no excuses ladies! Take care of that face!!

Did you know?

I've spent my day blending essential oils for clients to help with everything from weight loss to sinus issues to firming the skin. Rose oil is a common ingredient in skin care products for mature skin lacking tone and elasticity. Did you know that it takes close to ten thousand pounds of steam distilled rose petals to produce one pound of rose oil? That's about SIXTY roses for ONE drop of oil! Just thought I'd share that with you.
