True or False? Sun helps dry up acne lesions
True. Ultraviolet rays of the sun do help dry up acne lesions and kill acne bacteria. Additionally, the natural pigmentation from tanning helps hid the redness from acne. The same rays, however, can also cause inflammation and sun damage possibly leading to premature aging and cancer. Drying up acne with effective skin care products is a safer and better option.

True or False? Eating greasy foods will NOT flare acne.
True. Eating greasy foods is obviously not a good nutrition habit, but there is no scientific evidence that greasy foods cause or worsen acne. However, there is evidence that working in a greasy environment, such as a fast-food restaurant, may worsen acne due to the skin being exposed to the airborne grease from frying foods. I have seen this and it is hard to treat if you continue to work in that kind of environment.

True or False? Mineral oil causes clogged pores.
False. This is a very common belief among both aestheticians and consumers. The truth is that pharmaceutical-grade or cosmetic mineral oil is noncomedogenic. It does NOT clog pores. However, mineral oil cannot penetrate the skin, making it only useful as a skin protectant and not a moisturizer. Therefore it is best to avoid moisturizers, creams & lotions with mineral oil as they will not hydrate your skin.
